The data collected by Schoolfinder.ie is managed by its founder, David Traynor. Schoolfinder.ie is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Irish data protection law.

What information we collect

We collect the following information when you use Schoolfinder.ie:

• Email address — if you voluntarily sign up to receive updates about open days and school news via our email signup form
• Search data — we log search activity including your Eircode, school type, ethos filter and other filters selected. This data is used to improve the service and understand usage patterns across Ireland.
• Usage data — standard web analytics data such as pages visited, browser type and approximate location (country/region level). This is collected via Google Analytics if enabled.

How we use your information

• Your email address is used solely to send you updates about open days and school-related news relevant to your area. You can unsubscribe at any time.
• Anonymous search data is used to improve the service and understand which schools and areas parents are searching for.
• Search data including Eircodes may be shared with or sold to carefully selected third parties for research or commercial purposes. Any third parties we work with are required to comply with GDPR. You have the right to object to this use of your data by contacting us at info@schoolfinder.ie.
• We do not sell or share your email address to any third party.

Third-party services

Schoolfinder.ie uses the following third-party services which may process your data:

• Google Maps — used to display the map and calculate driving distances. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy
• Mailchimp — used to manage our email list. If you sign up for updates, your email is stored with Mailchimp. Their privacy policy applies: mailchimp.com/legal/privacy
• Supabase — used to store school data and search logs including Eircodes. Data is stored on Supabase's EU infrastructure.
• Netlify — used to host the website. Standard server logs may be retained for security purposes.

Cookies

Schoolfinder.ie uses minimal cookies necessary for the site to function. Google Maps may set cookies as part of its service. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. unsubscribe from emails)
• Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie

Data retention

Email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe. Anonymous search logs are retained for up to 12 months. We review and delete unnecessary data regularly.

Children's privacy

Schoolfinder.ie is intended for use by parents and guardians. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 16.
